Can Tokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing High School Be Useful for students in Real Life?

For those who don’t know, Tokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing High School is a hypothetical boarding school from the light novel ‘Classroom of the Elite’. In this school, students from different classes compete against each other to reach Class A. Graduating from Class A offers advantages in universities and jobs. The ranking of classes is determined by class points, which are earned through various special exams—both physical and academic, individual and group. There are rewards like personal points (equivalent to money), but there are also punishments, including expulsion.

Now, let’s discuss whether this kind of school, if implemented in real life, would be beneficial for students.

Advantages:

Students would be closely monitored by top-notch teachers and have opportunities for group studies, which could improve their academic skills. The competitive environment could help students reach their full potential. Students would become more disciplined and strategically strong. They would learn valuable real-life skills such as politics, communication, teamwork, and leadership.

Disadvantages:

The intense pressure from various special exams could negatively affect students’ mental health, causing stress and burnout. There could be a lack of collaboration and teamwork due to the competitive nature of the system. The merit-based system might exacerbate existing inequalities, favoring those with more resources or prior advantages. The intense competition could lead to moral compromises, such as cheating, manipulation, or unethical behavior. Perhaps only a small percentage of students would be able to survive this kind of environment.

Maybe this kind of school could be effective if i’t focuses on students’ mental health and morals alongside academic performance. However, due to the immense pressure, many students might not thrive in such an environment. I can’t come up with a single answer. 😐 Give me your insights.
